Help:Namespace

Namespaces are groups of pages that can be differentiated between in searches and page lists. They are indicated by having the name of the namespace preceding the article title, separated by a colon. Each namespace also has an associated talkspace, which adds a space and talk
between the namespace and colon, and it holds the talk pages associated with pages in those namespaces.

Default namespaces
Name | Purpose | Notes |
---|---|---|
The main namespace, also known as mainspace or (Main). On Fanon Wiki, it should only be used for redirects and disambiguation pages. | This is the namespace used for articles with no prefix, and as such the name is intentionally blank. | |
User | Userspace, for personal information about users, as well as any personal tests and user css or js. See Help:User pages. | Edits to pages in the talkspace of the user namespace will result in a notification bar for that user the next time they load a page, and possibly email them if they have that enabled. |
Fanon Wiki | Official policy pages for Fanon Wiki, as well as formal votes. | Technically considered the Project namespace by the MediaWiki software, this is the same as the site name on any wiki |
File | Uploading images/audio/video and putting the relevant file info and license template. See Help:Files. | Should only be created via Special:Upload. To link to a file description page, put : before the namespace ([[:File:Example.png]] ).
|
MediaWiki | System messages and css/js. | Only editable by admins. |
Template | Holding templates that can be transcluded into pages. | |

There is also pages whose prefix is Special:, which are not createable by normal users, including admins, so Special: is not considered a namespace in the traditional sense.
Custom namespaces
These are namespaces made for putting fanon works in. If a namespace does not exist, DO NOT try to put a page into it. This will cause a glitch that makes the page inaccessible if the namespace is later created.
