''Splatoon: Clean Teens'' showcases the stories of young, ambitious youth that yearn to rise to stardom in the Turf War scene during the franchise's ''Splat-tastic Saga'' (''Splatoon'', ''Splatoon 2'' , and ''Splatoon 3''). Each with their own reasons on why they entered. But most importantly, their Hero Mode tales are one-to-one on what actually transpired in said stories, but have some unique twists to spice them up slightly. The story's tone is mostly aimed towards readers in the range of ages 7 to 10, but sometimes depicts content that is more in line towards teenagers (i.e. graphic violence and Splatoon-style puns on swear words).

Splatoon: Clean Teens is a comic style novel of an AU in the Splatoon Series that was inspired by its Manga published by CoroCoro, but is instead more focused on the franchise's competitive scene, have a more serious tone than comedic, and be made to have certain attributes of the Series be more cleaner for general audiences than the fandom actually makes it look like.

Plot Summary

Splatoon: Clean Teens showcases the stories of young, ambitious youth that yearn to rise to stardom in the Turf War scene during the franchise's Splat-tastic Saga (Splatoon, Splatoon 2 , and Splatoon 3).

Do note that Splatoon: Clean Teens is ambiguous to the official Nintendo Canon for Splatoon. It is only made to be a fun AU by a fellow Splatoon fan.

List of Differences

Splatoon: Clean Teens has quite a few differences from official Splatoon Media to make it feel unique from them.

Differences from the Games

  • Not only are the respective Battle Towers used as Turf War lobbies for competitive and casual players to organize battles, they also include Commentator studios, multiple locker rooms and large spaces inside like Splatoon 3's Battle Lobby for practice drills.
  • The Shoal in both Inkopolis and Splatsville is an arcade/entertainment center instead of a Turf War matching lobby.
  • The amiibo Boxes are nonexistent.
  • The Shops sell the Gear Items that are normally obtainable from both Hero Modes (Octo Valley, Octo Canyon, Octo Expansion, Return of the Mammalians, Side Order), Judd (In Splatoon), amiibo, Special Splatfests, Wandercrust & Grizzco. With Gear made by the latter being sold for very expensive prices due to Mr. Grizz giving the sellers "copyright fees" so he can improve his business and its goals, while the Gear from the others are sold for cheap prices similar to the "Rookie Gear".
  • The shops don't sell the Japan-Exclusive Gear Items (The SQUID GIRL Set, the FA-11 Bomber Jackets, the Limited Edition V-Neck Tees, the Milky Eminence Set, the Sennyu Collection, the Mecha Set and Koshien Set), as Splatoon: Clean Teens is based on the North American Versions/Translations of the Splatoon Games. But the Black Pipe, White Line & SWC Logo Tees, the Traditional, CoroCoro, Moist Ghillie & Online Sets were the grand prizes in convention contests held in early May 2015 M.E and late June 2017 M.E respectively as the only sets in existence.
  • Gear ordered through SplatNet is forwarded to the Gear Shops rather than through Spyke or Murch.
  • Ammo Knights doesn't sell the Hero Weapon Replicas due to Sheldon never finding his Grandfather's lost top-secret Weapon blueprints (The ones from Splatoon's amiibo Challenges) and agreeing to the New Squidbeak Splatoon's "secrecy policy".
  • The Battle Lobbies, Battle Dojo, Shoal, Grizzco Industries and Shops are temporarily closed during weeks containing big holidays, such as Squidmas (Barring FrostyFest).
  • There are no duplicates of all eight Grizzco Weapon types. Meaning that there is only one of each in existence, which are only used by Grizzco's best Employees.
  • The servers for SplatNet are located in Inkopolis Tower.
  • As of the Splatsville League, with the Spawner Drones replacing the Spawn Points, each of the League's Stages have a special, indestructible Squid Beakon in each Team's base for Players to super jump back to.
  • The "green restroom" in Barnacle & Dime is replaced with a generic janitor closet.
  • Stages that got terrain modifications in Post-Release updates are used at the start of their Leagues. Specifically;
    • Splatoon:
      • Urchin Underpass, Saltspray Rig, Arowana Mall, Kelp Dome and Moray Towers in v2.0
    • Splatoon 2:
      • Musselforge Fitness, Humpback Pump Track, Inkblot Art Academy, Moray Towers and Port Mackerel in v2.1
      • Starfish Mainstage, Snapper Canal and Piranha Pit in v4.0
      • The Reef in v4.2
      • Blackbelly Skatepark in v4.3
      • Kelp Dome in v4.4
      • Shellendorf Institute and New Albacore Hotel in v5.0
    • Shifty Stations:
      • The Secret of S.P.L.A.T., Goosponge and Windmill House on the Pearlie in v3.0
    • Splatoon 3:
      • MakoMart and Wahoo World in v3.0
      • Mahi-Mahi Resort in v5.1
      • Mincemeat Metalworks in v6.1
      • Undertow Spillway in v7.2
      • Scorch Gorge, Eeltail Alley, Hagglefish Market, Hammerhead Bridge, Museum d'Alfonsino, Brinewater Springs, Flounder Heights, Um'ami Ruins, Manta Maria, Barnacle & Dime, Crableg Capital, Bluefin Depot and Marlin Airport in v8.0.
  • The performance of all Gear Abilities, Main Weapons, Sub Weapons and Special Weapons match those as of their games' final update patches. Specifically;
    • Splatoon v2.12.1
    • Splatoon 2 v5.5.1
    • Splatoon 3 v8.0 (CURRENT)

Differences from the Manga

To differentiate from the Splatoon Manga, certain aspects are changed to give the story and characters more of a less comedic tone, esthetic and atmosphere.

  • The main protagonists have serious and mature personalities, rather than the Manga's Goggles having a silly and childish personality in comparison.
  • Each Splatoon game story arc has its own main protagonist to be the "mascot" of said arc, while the previous ones get a support role.
  • Female Inklings/Octolings are shown to also be Team Captains as well as Males, compared to the Manga where basically every single shown Team in it (prior to its Splatoon 3 arc) is led by a Male Inkling/Octoling.
  • All of the original Characters have distinct human-like names, rather than being named after a piece of Gear they wear.
